is checkable.

Letters after a name mean nothing if nobody explains what they took to earn. This page lists what Dr. Nosti holds, what each one required, and where you can verify it without taking our word for it.

§ 01

Education and training

Where it started.

1998

Doctor of Dental Medicine

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey — now the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He has spoken publicly about graduating with over $150,000 of student debt.

1999

General Practice Residency

Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, Pennsylvania. A hospital-based residency year after dental school, covering a breadth of cases that a new graduate does not ordinarily see.

2004

Mercury-free practice

No dental amalgam has been placed in the practice since 2004. He is SMART certified for safe amalgam removal and a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.

Ongoing

A self-described “CE junkie”

Continuing education has been the organizing principle of his career since graduation. He credits Dennis Tarnow and Gordon Christensen among the clinicians whose teaching changed how he practices.

§ 02

Fellowships

What the letters require.

01

FAGD — Fellow, Academy of General Dentistry

Awarded for several hundred hours of approved continuing education accumulated over years, plus passing the Academy's comprehensive written examination. It is an earned credential rather than a membership, and a minority of general dentists hold it.

02

FACE — Fellow, Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics

Awarded for demonstrated competence in combining esthetic and functional dentistry — the discipline of making teeth look right and work right at the same time. His published biography puts the number of dentists in the United States holding it at around forty.

03

FICOI — Fellow, International Congress of Oral Implantologists

The ICOI is the world's largest implant dentistry organization. Fellowship requires documented implant education and clinical experience assessed against the organization's criteria, rather than attendance alone.

§ 03

Faculty and appointments

Positions held.

Current

Clinical Director of Education, The Clinical Mastery Series

A national continuing-education organization he co-founded. He directs its curriculum and teaches within it.

Current

Faculty, The Misch Institute of Implantology

One of the longest-running implant training programs in the United States, built around restoratively driven implant placement.

Current

Adjunct faculty, Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health

A dental school appointment, teaching students and residents.

Current

Clinical instructor, The Hornbrook Group

Hands-on instruction in cosmetic and restorative dentistry for practicing dentists.

Current

Editorial advisory board, Dentaltown

One of the most widely read dental publications in the United States. Board members review and shape its clinical content.

Current

Key opinion leader, Ivoclar · clinician, Brasseler USA

Clinical advisory roles with two manufacturers, in ceramics and in instrumentation respectively.

§ 04

Recognition

What peers and editors have said.

01

“Top Dentist,” New Jersey Monthly — every year since 2010

This award is decided by peer vote: dentists in New Jersey nominating dentists in New Jersey. It is not a patient popularity contest and it cannot be applied for. Being named once is meaningful; being named every year since 2010 is a pattern.

02

Named a top educator by Dentistry Today

Dentistry Today compiles an annual list of leaders in dental continuing education. Inclusion reflects an assessment by the publication of who is actually teaching at a national level, which is a different question from who has attended the most courses.

§ 05

Published work

Eighteen articles in Dentaltown.

He sits on the publication's editorial advisory board and has written for it since 2010. The list below is his Dentaltown record; he has also published in the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Economics, Dentistry Today, Inside Dentistry and in American Dental Association journals and patient brochures.

What is deliberately not on this page

There is no aggregate star rating, no composite “patients treated” figure and no award that was bought. Where a number could not be verified from a published source it has been left out rather than estimated, and anything described as typical is described that way because outcomes vary.

Start with an examination and a straight answer.

A consultation includes an examination, the records the case needs and a written, itemized plan. If what you are asking for is not the right treatment, Dr. Nosti will say so and tell you what is.
